CBCT and Digital Planning Cost for All-on-4: What You Are Paying For

3D imaging, digital impressions and surgical planning can look like small fees beside a full-arch case, but they are central to the treatment plan. Know what is included and what is optional.

When a treatment costs many thousands of dollars, a scan fee can seem trivial. But CBCT imaging and digital planning are the stage where anatomy, implant positions and prosthetic design become more concrete. Mayo Clinic describes dental implant planning as involving comprehensive examination and imaging, and Cleveland Clinic notes that jawbone quantity matters to implant planning. The economic value is not that “digital” sounds advanced; it is that planning can expose cost-changing issues before surgery.

2026 U.S. benchmarkCareCredit reported an average All-on-4 cost of $15,176 per arch in April 2026, with a published range of $11,640 to $27,500. That is a planning benchmark, not a quote for your case.

What a planning fee may include

A quote may include panoramic X-rays, CBCT, intraoral scanning, photographs, digital wax-up, surgical planning and a surgical guide. Some clinics bundle all planning into the surgical package; others charge separately.

Ask which records are reusable if you seek a second opinion and whether you receive copies of the scan and plan.

Why imaging can change the final number

The scan may reveal bone limitations, sinus anatomy, pathology or other issues that alter implant positions, grafting, implant count or treatment sequence. That makes imaging one of the highest-leverage cost checkpoints in the process.

If a clinic gives a final price without reviewing adequate records, treat the number as provisional until the diagnostic work is complete.

Digital planning is not automatically a premium worth any price

Technology is useful when it changes planning quality, communication or execution. Ask what the clinic is actually doing with the scan and whether a surgical guide or photogrammetry workflow is included.

A large “digital dentistry” surcharge should come with a concrete description, not branding alone.

Keep your records

CDC recommends that medical tourists request copies of overseas medical records for later follow-up. Ask for CBCT exports or accessible image files, implant details and the final restorative records you may need at home.

The rule for every full-arch quoteDo not treat a “starting at” number as the total. Confirm the implant plan, extractions, imaging, sedation, provisional, definitive bridge material, lab work, follow-up, warranty and any travel required to finish the case.
Prices, savings, and quote ranges shown here are estimates only. They are for planning and comparison and are not a diagnosis or a case-specific treatment quote. Your actual treatment price can change based on your examination, imaging, tooth prognosis, bone or grafting needs, implant/restorative system, materials, sedation, and treatment sequence. Frequently asked questions

Is CBCT always included in All-on-4 pricing?

No. Ask whether imaging is included and whether outside scans are acceptable.

Can I get the scan before traveling?

Often yes if a qualified provider can produce appropriate imaging, but the treating clinic must confirm the format and quality it needs.

Should I get a copy of my scan?

Yes. Keeping your records supports second opinions and follow-up care.
